Into The Wild Blue Yonder

I shot these photos last Saturday, May 31, 2008 of the Space Shuttle taking off from Cape Canaveral, from a parking lot in Champions Gate, which is about 75 or 80 miles (120 or 128 kilometers) from the launch site.

Wow! That's something. The first shots look like airplanes with extra-long wings.

I remember watching some of the first space launches from West Palm Beach. It is still exciting to see the shuttle contrail. Alan Sheppard would have been proud.

Looks like the perfect sky for a launch. Great shot of the shuttle and the contrail. I have to get down to see a launch one of these days.

Spectacular sight! I once saw the Space Shuttle launch while on a family vacation in Florida - it really was exciting! I hadn't heard about the displaced lighthouse; that certainly is a long way from home!

I would kill to see a launch. Lucky you to even be able to see as much as this... but to be so close to the launch site is wonderful... great photos!

I'm getting here so late (shots, reaction, much better) - 37 folks beat me here - not fair. LOL.
As I was scrolling down the end of that contrail made me think of the Space Shuttle and low and behold - my Champ got a champion shot!
Lucky you - lucky us!

Tom's comment made me laugh; but wouldn't that be cool!

Neat! When I saw the first photo, I said to myself, That is a bigger vapor trail than just a regular old airplane!

I agree with Abe. It always amazes me how long the tails last. Wow. This is funny: I didn't even know there was a launch. What used to be such big news is now relegated to second page stuff, no?

peppylady said...

What blue skies you have.
Nothing like that here now. But it could clear off.

What a neat thing to watch.

Mine is up.

And you're so right that I was glad that the water that doused me was clear, not colored, when the fireboat came close.
